It was probably the experience of living in Indonesia and being seduced by the Balinese way of life that led Mark de Reus to open his studio in the tropics.

In Bali the lines that divide a building and its site are as blurred as those between the world of spirits and the world of man. There is a pure sense of grace and harmony when the world of nature reminds man that he is a part of the natural rhythms of the universe.

This same connection to natural influences can work anywhere in the world. In Hawai‘i it is called Ka nohona lokahi – the way of living in connection, or harmoniously, with the laws of nature; living in connection with god, nature and man. de Reus Architects calls upon this sense of connection in all their projects.
