Galante Family Winery
Sonoma, California
The 740 acre Galante ranch in Cachagua Valley above Carmel Valley had an established reputation for growing premium cabernet grapes and garden roses. In 1994, Jack Galante built the first phase of this winery to produce his own estate wine, planning for an eventual production of 12,000 cases. Five years later, with his cabernets already winning awards in the ultra-premium market, the next phase was to construct the caves, tasting and administrative areas of the winery.
The white Monterey ranch architecture is both independent and complimentary to the mountainside setting and the existing ranch house. The arrangement of the building parts - the large fermentation barn, the tower, the attached yard buildings and the tasting room form a small isolated outpost - as if it were built over time. The white vertical board and batten walls, simple gable-ends and covered porches are classic to California ranches.
Total area 6,000 sf (without caves)
