The concept and design of the Kuki'o Cottages were inspired by Mark's recollection of Balinese family compounds. Each of the Kuki‘o Cottages is comprised of three or four separate hales surrounded by stone walls, fences and lush gardens to provide privacy.
The Cottages, adjacent to the Kuki'o Beach Club, were planned to provide the density forming the "village core" of the resort. Cottage owners can easily walk or take a cart to the Club. The architectural design reinterprets the early 20th century Hawaiian architecture exemplified by Charles W. Dickey with rustic elegant materials. Architectural detailing conveys a strong sense of craftsmanship with exposed timber framing, plaster walls and exotic woodwork.
The Cottages range in size from 2,000 to 3,500 square feet and are clustered around historic ponds on 15 acres. The first phase introduced 18 cottages and the second phase included 20 more.
