On one of the premiere lake properties on Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho this home was designed and built by Mark de Reus and his partner Steve Trout in 1979, and was the first project completed after graduating from college.
In order to protect a number of significant first-growth Ponderosa Pine trees, the design concept of the home was to coexist alongside these trees in order to feel their presence and capture their dramatic spirit. Rather than open up larger views to the lake, the plan was for the home to be hidden behind the forest and see the lake through the foliage.
In order to relate to the coloration of the Ponderosa Pine trunk coloration, redwood siding was used as the exterior wall material. Metal roofing was used for the practical nature of shedding snow and durability.
The architectural design of the interior of the home is one of restraint and simplicity with the use of cedar and redwood and local granite stone.
