Featured in Duo Dicksonʻs book "The Small House", Mark de Reus designed and built this passive solar 2,100 sq. ft. residence in 1981. At the clientʻs request, the novel passive solar thermal envelope designs, being pioneered by Lee Porter Butler in the Tahoe area, were used in the design of this mountain retreat.
With an architectural concept of a modern mountain cabin, this four-bedroom, three-story structure overlooks Payette River and Long Valley. The interior floors, walls and cabinetry are clear pine. The structure is designed with exposed Douglas Fir timbers. Cedar siding and roof shingles are used on the exterior.
The solar envelope design of the home is very effective.
