Ranch at Sonoma Mountain
Sonoma, California
Set on a 1,000 acre horse ranch on the West side of Sonoma Mountain, the design of this 10,000 sf residence was inspired by the early California architecture of Wallace Neff and Irving Gill.
Sited along the owner's man-made lake, a stone retaining wall separates the immediate homesite from the horse pasture below. Views of the ranch and valley below can be seen from all major rooms. The entry is open air during warm months with large doors closing it into a foyer in the winter. The exterior walls are cement plaster over masonry; interior finishes include veneer plaster, wood beamed ceilings, cast stone columns, terra cotta tile floors and gunstock quality mahogany woodwork. The ranch buildings include horse stables, caretaker's residence, helipad, tennis court and shop.
