Seaside Hale with Surfing Fisherman
Kuki‘o, North Kona, Hawai‘i
Perched over Kikaua Bay, the plan organizes the home with three separate buildings around a long quiet internal garden court giving the main living space and lanai full direct views of the ocean. The theme of water was brought alongside the living areas with a swimming pool engaging the floorplan on one side, and a reflecting pool at the interior garden on the other.
Hawaiian and Pacific Rim craftsmanship can been seen in the details from the exposed wood beams at the eaves and ceiling, to the carved stone artwork, beams and intricately carved wood doors inspired from Bali, playful colors in the plaster walls, coconut columns, and rich tropical woods.
