Mark de Reus, as a SVP with BAR, was the lead architect on this 15,000 sq. ft. residence located on the saddle of Chimney Rock Ridge overlooking Napa Valley and Soda Canyon. The client's requirement was that the home be designed in the style of a small northern Italian or southern Swiss village. The architecture would be rustic in character with extensive use of stone and cement plaster with aged terra cotta roof tiles.
The design concept positioned the components of the home in an organic manner that might have evolved from many generations of growth, much like the mountain villages in Italy that the client was fond of.
Besides the main house, the project includes extensive garages for the client's car and motorcycle collections as well as a horse stable and caretaker's residence.
